PaddleFest is the interactive and hands on experience of the year to prepare you and your family for the next on water adventure. The event draws thousands of newbies and enthusiasts from around the region to learn, share, watch and celebrate what paddling has to offer. The multiple location venues include a flat-water demo center, on water education, river competitions, multi-sport races, free demos, and several other non-paddling and family oriented events centered on “all ages” participation.
FIBArk, (First In Boating the Arkansas) boat races started June 19, 1949 when six boats launched from Salida, paddling a treacherous 57 mile run on the Arkansas River to Canon City. Now an annually anticipated event that celebrates the Arkansas River's spring runoff and invites paddlers from around world to come and compete. This event is high energy and fun for paddlers and non-paddlers a like.
This five-day course is designed for competent whitewater kayakers who want to become instructors. During this course Instructor, candidates will learn industry standards for teaching kayaking and be assessed throughout the class on Teaching Ability, Technical Ability, Technical Knowledge, and Rescue Ability.
The 7th Annual Royal Gorge Whitewater Festival (RGWF) features kayak, stand up paddle board, raft, and river board competitions along with other events to promote the outdoors and an active lifestyle. The RGWF has been selected as the host for the 2015 USA R-6 Rafting Nationals competition and will host some of the best rafting teams in the country. The festival also includes food, beer, vendors, and entertainment for the entire family. All proceeds from the event go towards continued expansion of the Whitewater Park, river restoration in Canyon City.
